Atlanta is the genesis mint of the Kinesis Art Collective. A mesmerizing study in phasing in the 2D plane, Atlanta contains moments of profound synchronicity that emerge out of a seemingly jumbled chaos. As shapes align, the viewer is invited to reflect upon moments of alignment and seeming chance in their own life.

It is recommended to view each piece for at least 45 seconds to allow deeper, more satisfying patterns to emerge.

Concept

“Atlanta” is composed of sets of shapes traversing along a curve in polar space. Larger shapes travel faster than the smaller ones on a monotonically increasing scale; the differing speeds cause the forms to get out of phase, and eventually sync up in surprising, entrancing patterns.

The properties of each piece are determined by a hash that is generated when the token is minted, ensuring a unique piece every time. "Atlanta" is 100 % generated on - chain, and thus will exist as long as the Ethereum blockchain continues to. A detailed breakdown of properties and rarity is coming soon!

Name and Inspiration

Now, you might be thinking “Hey Grant, why are these spinning shapes called ‘Atlanta’?” Well dear reader, I thought it was only fitting that the first work in the Kinesis Art catalogue connects us back to our roots. In a life where countless synchronicities open and close countless doors, I wanted to pay homage to the first door that brought the Kinesis team together: great city of Atlanta, GA, where all three of us grew up, went to school and (most importantly) became friends

I started working on Atlanta over 3 years ago when I was animating show promos for my college radio station. At the time, I’d become obsessed with the works of composer Steve Reich, particularly his"Piano Phase”piece. I was struck by the moments of transcendent beauty and alignment that materialized out of cacophony, and I was curious to see if I could accomplish the same thing in a visual medium. I set some circles rotating around a bigger circle at different speeds and was immediately struck by the ultra - satisfying patterns that emerged. Since then, I’ve played with different shapes, sizes, speeds, colors, motive patterns, and more, the best of which are represented in the current algorithm

Me

Processing was actually the first coding language I ever learned way back in the 9th grade (thanks Mr.Kaplan!). I had always loved and admired art, but was inept at traditional media like drawing or painting; with Processing, I had found a medium I could work with and excel in - I immediately fell in love. Since then I have been on a bit of a journey with computer science - graduating with a degree in CS, and working multiple different stints at various tech companies. But throughout the years I have always come back to Processing, animating stuff for fun or creating moving posters and promos. This opportunity to create and curate digital art is quite literally a dream come true, and I am beyond thrilled to present “Atlanta” as my first project! I hope it resonates with you as it does with me
