In the days leading up to the Atlanta drop, I had watched so many Atlantas during development that I would see little spinning shapes whenever I closed my eyes. The night of the drop, I had a brush of inspiration: as I closed my eyes to go to sleep, I saw an Atlanta piece with the usual moving circles. But instead of just an empty form, each circle was a window into a different, strange world. I became obsessed with this idea of “portals” and really wanted to build a piece around the concept.
The properties of each piece are determined by a hash that is generated when the token is minted, ensuring a unique piece every time. "Atlanta" is 100 % generated on - chain, and thus will exist as long as the Ethereum blockchain continues to. A detailed breakdown of properties and rarity is coming soon!
The piece you see before you today is composed of 1-3 randomly chosen backing layers, with rectangular “Portals” traveling around the canvas, masking into the different backing “worlds”.
I wrote the initial program this way, but just wasn’t wowed by the results. They definitely looked like portals into different geometric worlds, but they didn’t really me mesmerize in the way that Atlanta did. On a whim, I decided to add a kaleidoscopic effect, and mirror the canvas four times - and was immediately struck by the impact it had. It transformed the piece from merely portals on the 2D plane, into this complex, evolving form. Even though I knew exactly how the program was working behind the scenes, I wasn’t able to wrap my head around how the changes and shapes were occurring. I knew I was onto something :)
